Inaugurée en 1994 à l’occasion de la mise en service de la ligne TGV Rhône-Alpes, la gare TGV de Gare de Lyon-Saint-Exupéry est l’une des réalisations les plus emblématiques de l’architecte espagnol Santiago Calatrava. Avec sa spectaculaire structure de béton et d’acier évoquant un oiseau en plein envol, l’édifice est devenu un repère architectural majeur aux portes de Lyon. Conçue pour relier le réseau ferroviaire à l’aéroport voisin, la gare illustre la volonté des années 1990 de développer les grands pôles d’échanges multimodaux. Plus de trente ans après son inauguration, elle demeure l’un des symboles contemporains de l’architecture des transports en France.

Inaugurated in 1994 on the occasion of the commissioning of the Rhône-Alpes TGV line, the Gare de Lyon-Saint-Exupéry TGV station is one of the most emblematic achievements of the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. With its spectacular concrete and steel structure evoking a bird in full flight, the building has become a major architectural landmark at the gates of Lyon. Designed to connect the rail network to the nearby airport, the station illustrates the desire of the 1990s to develop major multimodal exchange hubs. More than thirty years after its inauguration, it remains one of the contemporary symbols of transport architecture in France.
