Le devoilement de l oeuvre Opus realisee par Wim Delvoye dans la cathedrale Saint-Bavon de Gand
A partir du 28 aout 2020, l oeuvre Opus, une variation de l oeuvre Suppo, avec laquelle Wim Delvoye a ete expose au Louvre a Paris, entre autres, se verra attribuer une place proeminente et permanente dans le hall de la cathedrale Saint-Bavon. Les visiteurs de la cathedrale pourront marcher sous cette oeuvre d art metallique de 5 metres de long en acier inoxydable decoupe au laser, dans laquelle de petites et grandes pieces se fondent dans une tour gothique en spirale accrochee dans la tour de la cathedrale. Delvoye avec son opera rend hommage a l architecture de la Flandre et de la ville de Gand, ou il a etudie et travaille pendant des decennies. L oeuvre contemporaine se mele aux oeuvres historiques deja presentes a l interieur de la cathedrale. Le recteur de la cathedrale Saint-Bavon, Ludo Collin, explique que «deux fleches de l oeuvre sont dirigees vers le haut et vers le bas. En tant que chretiens, nous regardons vers le ciel, mais par-dessus tout, nous devons vivre notre vie sur terre. Je parle de la fraternite, de la tolerance et de la misericorde que nous nous traitons.
The unveiling of the artwork Opus made by Wim Delvoye in the Saint Bavo Cathedral of Ghent
From 28th August 2020 the artwork Opus, a variation on the work Suppo, with which Wim Delvoye was shown in the Louvre in Paris, among others, will be given a prominent and permanent place in the hall of the Saint Bavo Cathedral. Visitors of the Cathedral will be able to walk under this 5-meter long metal artwork made of laser-cut stainless steel, in which small and large pieces merge into a spiral Gothic tower will be hanging in the tower of the cathedral. Delvoye with his opera pays tribute to the architecture of Flanders and the city of Ghent, where he studied and worked for decades. The contemporary artwork mix with the historical works already present inside the cathedral. The rector of Saint Bavo?s cathedral Ludo Collin explains ? two spiers in the artwork are directed upwards and downwards.
