Hong Kong Vertigo
Hong Kong fait partie de ces destinations qui ont longtemps titillé mon imaginaire, en grande partie façonné par l'iconographie et les lieux communs créés puis diffusés par les 7e et 8e Arts. C'est le nom d'abord, qui résonne comme un puissant coup de tambour donné par un primate hors norme et hors sujet. C'est l'architecture ensuite, et peut-être surtout - sa démesure, en hauteur, en densité, en contrastes - qui fascine l'amateur de paysages urbains singuliers que je suis. On est d'ailleurs tenté de l'aborder comme un décor de film de science-fiction volontiers rétrofuturiste plus que comme un réel espace de vie.
Et pourtant, aux pieds de ses innombrables gratte-ciels et de ses tours allumettes, la vie grouille étrangement. S'y presse une population cosmopolite et multiethnique, socialement, financièrement et culturellement hétérogène mêlant Hongkongais, Chinois continentaux, Philippins, Indonésiens, occidentaux expatriés auxquels s'ajoutent des touristes de plus en plus nombreux, de toutes les origines et adeptes d'un narcissisme 2.0 assez déconcertant.
Fort heureusement, il suffit souvent de s'éloigner de quelques pas seulement des points touristiques névralgiques - que je ne renie pas - pour découvrir un tout autre visage d'une ville, plus authentique, plus réel d'une certaine manière, et se donner ainsi la chance de créer sa propre imagerie, plus complète, riche et subtile.
Tout comme il suffit de sauter dans un bus pour s'extraire du tumulte et du bouillonnement excitants de cette ville à l'horizon obturé et ainsi respirer à nouveau, élargir son champ visuel, tâter de la chlorophylle et se jeter à l'eau. Bref, pour sentir le temps prendre son temps même si cet épicurisme est chaque jour grignoté et l'équilibre fragile...
Hong Kong Vertigo
Hong Kong is one of those destinations that have long stimulated my imagination, largely shaped by iconography and commonplace created and disseminated by the 7th and 8th Arts. First of all, it is the name, which resonates like a powerful drumbeat given by an extraordinary and irrelevant primate. Then it is architecture, and perhaps above all - its disproportionate size, height, density, contrasts - that fascinates me as a lover of singular urban landscapes. It is tempting to approach it as a retro-futuristic science-fiction film setting rather than a real living space.
And yet, at the feet of its countless skyscrapers and very thin towers, life is strangely swarming. There is a cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic population, socially, financially and culturally heterogeneous, mixing Hong Kongers, Continental Chinese, Filipinos, Indonesians, Westerners and expatriates, as well as an increasing number of tourists of all origins and followers of a rather disconcerting narcissism 2.0.
Fortunately, it is often enough to move away from the nerve centres - which I do not deny - to discover a completely different face of a city, more authentic, more real in a certain way, and thus give yourself the chance to create your own imagery, more complete, rich and subtle.
Just as you just have to jump on a bus to get out of the exciting turmoil and bustle of this city with its closed horizon and breathe again, widen your visual field, feel chlorophyll and jump into the water. In short, to feel the time take its time even if this epicureanism is nibbled every day and the fragile balance...
