MOPTI, UNE VILLE AU COEUR DU MALI ET DU SAHEL
Située au coeur du Mali et du Sahel, Mopti possède un important port fluvial.
La ville est construite au confluent de la rivière Bani et du fleuve Niger dans la plaine du Massina qui a la particularité d'être inondée plusieurs mois par an, pendant et après la période d'hivernage.
L'agglomération s'est développée grâce au transport fluvial mais elle est aussi située sur un noeud routier important qui la relie à tout le pays ainsi qu'aux pays limitrophes comme le Burkina Faso et le Niger.
La pêche y est aussi très importante bien qu'aujourd'hui la ressource s'épuise en raison de la surpêche. La production est fumée, salée, bouillie ou séchée au soleil et exportée dans plusieurs pays d'Afrique. Les pêcheurs Bozos déplacent leurs huttes de paille au gré des crues et décrues et les bergers peuls en font autant avec leurs troupeaux à la recherche de paturages.
Mopti et sa région concentrent un grand nombre des peuples présents dans cette partie d'Afrique : Bambaras, Peuls, Bozos, Dogons, Songhaïs, Myankas, Sénoufos, Mossis, Touaregs, Maures, Bobos, Sarakolés? Mopti est maintenant au coeur des violences, de la terreur, qui sévissent dans la région et l'équilibre, sans doute précaire, qui longtemps a permis à ces peuples de vivre en harmonie a volé en éclat.

Located in the heart of Mali and the Sahel, Mopti has an important river port.
The city is built at the confluence of the Bani River and the Niger River in the Massina plain, which has the particularity of being flooded several months a year, during and after the rainy season.
The city has developed thanks to river transport, but it is also located on an important road junction that connects it to the entire country as well as to neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and Niger.
Fishing is also very important, although today the resource is depleted due to overfishing. The production is smoked, salted, boiled or sun-dried and exported to several African countries. The Bozo fishermen move their straw huts according to the floods and the Fulani shepherds do the same with their herds in search of pasture.
Mopti and its region are home to a large number of the peoples present in this part of Africa: Bambaras, Peuls, Bozos, Dogons, Songhaïs, Myankas, Sénoufos, Mossis, Touaregs, Maures, Bobos, Sarakolés... Mopti is now at the heart of the violence, of the terror, which is rampant in the region and the balance, no doubt precarious, which for a long time allowed these peoples to live in harmony, has been shattered.
