Cathédrale de Nevers
La Cathédrale Saint-Cyr Sainte-Julitte, à Nevers (58), présente la particularité de posséder deux chœurs opposés ; l'un roman, l'autre gothique, résultat de la juxtaposition des édifices successifs. Des premières constructions aux ornements actuels, c'est près de 15 siècles d'histoire qui s'expriment à travers cet édifice.
De la création de l'évêché de Nevers au Vème-VIème siècle, il ne subsiste que les vestiges d'un baptistère, destiné, au baptême par immersion des premiers chrétiens
Dans la première moitié du XIème siècle, une cathédrale de style roman voit le jour, avec un chœur orienté à l'Ouest une autre cathédrale de style gothique est greffée aux parties romanes encore en place, avec un chœur rebâti dans un style gothique.
Nevers Cathedral
The Cathedral of Saint-Cyr Sainte-Julitte in Nevers (58) is unique in that it has two opposing choirs, one Romanesque and the other Gothic, the result of successive buildings being added to the original structure. From its initial construction to its current ornamentation, this building reflects nearly 15 centuries of history.
All that remains of the bishopric of Nevers, founded in the 5th-6th centuries, are the ruins of a baptistery, used for the baptism by immersion of the first Christians.
In the first half of the 11th century, a Romanesque cathedral was built with a west-facing choir. Another Gothic cathedral was added to the existing Romanesque parts, with a choir rebuilt in the Gothic style.
