Cathédrale de Jean Linard
Artiste, potier, sculpteur, graveur, peintre et bâtisseur, Jean Linard est né en 1931 à La Marche, près de La Charité-sur-Loire.
Après avoir construit sa maison et ses ateliers dans une ancienne carrière de silex, Jean Linard, entreprend en 1983 la construction de l’œuvre de sa vie dans son jardin : une cathédrale à ciel ouvert, selon l’artiste lui-même : la cathédrale la plus haute du monde car elle a pour toit le ciel ! Il y consacrera les 27 dernières années de sa vie. Faite de pierre et de brique, recouverte en partie de mosaïques, intégrant divers matériaux de récupération, cette cathédrale haute d’environ 10 m se veut résolument universelle.
Décédé en 2010 ses cendres ont été répandues autour de la tombe qu’il avait lui-même construite.
Le site a été racheté en 2022 par un couple de trentenaires, Charlotte et William,
pâtissiers de métier, qui ont eu un véritable coup
de cœur pour ce monument.
Cathedral of Jean Linard
Artist, potter, sculptor, engraver, painter and builder, Jean Linard was born in 1931 in La Marche, near La Charité-sur-Loire.
After building his home and workshops in a former flint quarry, Jean Linard began work in 1983 on his life's work in his garden: an open-air cathedral, according to the artist himself: the tallest cathedral in the world because its roof is the sky! He devoted the last 27 years of his life to it. Made of stone and brick, partly covered with mosaics and incorporating various recycled materials, this cathedral, approximately 10 metres high, is intended to be universal.
He died in 2010 and his ashes were scattered around the tomb he had built himself.
The site was bought in 2022 by Charlotte and William, a couple in their thirties
who are pastry chefs by trade and fell head over heels in love with this monument.
