La flotte des Pen Duick d'Eric Tabarly declaree monument historique
Si le premier Pen Duick avait ete classe au titre de monument historique des 2016, les Pen Duick II, III et V le sont desormais, 26 ans apres la mort d'Eric Tabarly .
Le premier voilier d'Eric Tabarly, le Pen Duick, est un cotre aurique de 15 m construit en Irlande en 1898. Guy Tabarly, le pere d'Eric, l’achete en 1938 et Eric Tabarly le recupere en 1952 et effectue de nombreuses regates avec. C’est a bord de ce voilier qu’Eric Tabarly disparaIt en mer en juin 1998 au large du Pays de Galles.
Pen Duick II est le premier voilier d’Eric Tabarly conçu specialement pour une course : la deuxieme edition de la Transat en solitaire anglaise en 1964, que le navigateur francais gagne.
Pen Duick III possede la plus grande coque aluminium de son époque. Concu pour courir la transat en solitaire de 1968, il remportera toutes les courses auxquelles il participe.
Pen Duick IV est un trimaran de course au large construit en 1968. Eric Tabarly ne gagne pas de course avec mais Alain Colas, ancien equipier de Tabarly, mene le bateau a la victoire sous le nom de Manureva lors de la Transat 1972. Il disparait au large des Açores en novembre 1978 lors de la Route du Rhum.
Pen Duick V est le premier voilier de course a ballasts concu specialement pour la course en solitaire de 1969 : la Transpacifique San-Francisco - Tokyo. Eric Tabarly remporte la course en 39 jours et 15 heures avec 11 jours d’avance sur le second.
Avec le Pen Duick VI, Eric Tabarly remporte la Transat anglaise en solitaire de 1976 meme s’il a ete construit pour la premiere course autour du monde, la Whitbread de 1973-1974.
Desormais, hormis le Pen Duick VI qui reste propriete de Marie Tabarly, tous ces bateaux ont ete confies a l'Association Eric Tabarly, installee a La Base de Lorient, leur nouveau port d’attache, qui les entretient et les fait naviguer.

If the first Pen Duick had been classified as a historic monument in 2016, Pen Duick II, III , V and VI are also declared historic monument in September 2024, 26 years after the death of Eric Tabarly.
Eric Tabarly's first sailboat, the Pen Duick, is a 15 m gaff cutter built in Ireland in 1898. Guy Tabarly, Eric's father, bought it in 1938 and Eric Tabarly recovered it in 1952 and completed numerous regattas with. It was on board this sailboat that Eric Tabarly disappeared at sea in June 1998 off the coast of Wales.
Pen Duick II is Eric Tabarly's first sailboat designed especially for the second edition of the English single-handed Transat in 1964 which the French sailor won.
Pen Duick III has the largest aluminum hull of its time. Designed to run the solo transatlantic race in 1968, he won all the races in which she participated.
Pen Duick IV is a trimaran built in 1968 for the Transat race.
